This follows viral videos of officers in uniform brutalising residents of Wa circulating on social with many questioning the reasons behind the awkward development.

Minority Leader Haruna Idrisu who raised the matter in the floor of Parliament, condemned the act by the officers in uniform. Drawing the speaker’s attention to the brutalities, Haruna Idrisu noted that “Mr. Speaker, the relationship between civilians and the military is beginning to crack so fast due to the use of military for different purposes other than their constitutional mandate. It’s the duty of the police to maintain law and order whilst the military protects territory. They cannot disturb the peace and protect it. Mr. Speaker, let your Defense and Interior Committee in investigate the brutalities in WA”.

Contributing to the debate, Majority Leader and Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Osei Kyei Mensah-Bonsu said “The Minority Leader doesn’t have the details and since we don’t have all the facts, let investigate it”.

Meanwhile, Defence Minister Dominic Nitiwul has promised that “perpetrators of the act will be punished after investigation”.
