Ejura killings: Let’s punish Regional Minister- Dr. Norman

President of the Institute for Security, Disaster and Emergency Studies ( ISDES) and renowned Security Expert Dr. Ishmael Norman says the Ashanti Regional Minister Simon Osei Mensah should be punished for the excesses at Ejura because he invited the police and military to engage in needless shooting of unarmed protestors.

Ejura killings: Let’s punish Regional Minister- Dr. Norman

The murder of Ibrahim Mohammed, Kaaka at Ejura fueled a protest by unarmed residents during which police, military shot two residents dead with two others sustaining gunshot wounds in a town that has already broken tears.

According to Dr. Norman, Mr. Simon Osei Mensah has already confirmed that he invited the military and must face the music for the killing of innocent residents.

Speaking during interview monitored by African Editors on Saturday 3 July 2021, Dr. Norman insists “If the Regional Minister details the security officers and they went beyond their thresholds, he has questions to answer. He must be punished”.

Meanwhile, Dr. Ishmael Norman wants commission of enquiry to be set up to probe the killings at Ejura. According to him, “Dr. Vladimir Antwi Danso has a confortable and entrenched relationship with the army, his objectivity on the Justice George Koomson-Led Ejura Committee will be questionable and difficult for him. Dr. Danso is a man of high reputation but I wish he hasn’t accepted this appointment because he has trained many military men and the matter is about the military. Objectivity will be a matter of concern”.

Dr. Norman has also lauded IGP James Oppong Boanuh for giving the NDC clearance to demonstrate. According to him, national security is not only about holding guns, crimes control but also economic issues.

“We can’t leave in a country where people can’t demonstrate, a dictatorship kind of state, I am happy that the opposition party has been given the green light to protest. It shows maturity”.
